Our History

In January 2000, Neil Volder of Volder Consulting LLC., unveiled his vision for a unique resort-style waterfront retirement community adjacent to historic Fort Norfolk. He partnered with Greystone Communties, Inc. of Dallas Texas, a leader in creating tailored services for more than 300 retirement communities nationwide, to plan the development. More than four years and $4.8 million later, Volder and eight of Norfolk's top recognized business leaders who agreed to serve as volunteer members of the Board of Directors, successfully obtained financing for Harbor's Edge. Ground was broken for the development on November 8, 2004 and within 9 weeks the development had set a record for selling all available residences. Harbor's Edge charter members moved into the magnificent building in August 2006.

The Harbor's Edge community itself is rich with history. Harbor's Edge is located in historic Fort Norfolk, the site of one of 19 harbor-front forts authorized by President George Washington in 1784.
