NORFOLK, Va. – On Wednesday, April 10, existing and future residents of Harbor’s Edge will join civic leaders and other dignitaries to celebrate the groundbreaking of the highly anticipated $200 million River Tower expansion.

Its 147 new upscale residences in the 24-story tower will all have views of downtown Norfolk and the Elizabeth River. The expansion will also add 75,000 square feet of new common areas, including two new restaurants, a lobby lounge and a grand hall.

“A second tower was always part of the original project, but the economic downturn caused us to delay our plans,” said Neil Volder, CEO and developer of Harbor’s Edge. “However, once unveiled, everyone will agree that it was worth the wait. We’ve worked with some incredibly talented and creative partners in Clark Nexsen, StudioSIX5, three and W.M. Jordan Company. They’ve taken our vision and transformed it into a plan that current and future residents will absolutely love.”

After a 24-month construction period, the River Tower’s first apartments will be available in 2021. Once the expansion is complete, the common areas of the community’s existing building will undergo a complete renovation, so the décor of both towers will be of similar style and quality.

“The demand for our type of high-end services for active seniors is only continuing to grow here,” said Volder, who added that more than 85 percent of apartment homes in River Tower are currently reserved. “I’m confident this expansion will allow us to be one of the premier retirement destinations in the Mid-Atlantic and amplify our commitment to fine dining, luxurious amenities and the total comfort of those we serve.”
